Call for papers for the 2nd ISOFAR Conference

The call for for papers for the second ISOFAR conference was issued at the end of June 2007 (ISOFAR Call). The deadline for the submission of papers was October 15, 2007.

The submission procedure is a one step process. Papers had to be submitted via the Organic Eprints Archive (see Guidelines).

For selected papers, authors will be asked to present an abstract (500 words) to be published in the book of Abstracts in the IFOAM Conference Reader. In that case your abstract from the ISOFAR paper will be used (1200 characters)  unless you want to extend the abstract to 500 words.

Acceptance of papers will be based on their relevance to Organic Agriculture, contribution to the overall aims of ISOFAR, and scientific quality. ISOFAR welcomes papers on all aspects of Organic Agriculture. It should be noted though, that there are separate conferences for organic fruit, viticulture and textiles to which papers with these themes should be submitted (see below) .

The themes  covered by the ISOFAR Scientific Conference are listed below.

Cross-disciplinary papers

Please consider the particular relevance of cross disciplinary themes expected to improve our understanding of complex interactions in agricultural and food systems. Cross disciplinary papers have to fulfil specific requirements and will be given high priority for oral presentation.

Cross-disciplinary papers can include aspects such as:

  • Interactions between crop and livestock production strategies, environmental and climate impact, and animal health and welfare
  • Synergies in livestock management, including choice of breed, feeding strategy and animal health and production
  • Interactions between farming practices, product quality and consumer satisfaction
  • Relations between different degrees of market orientation and the impact on farmers’ livelihood and the environment
  • Organic agriculture’s contribution to multifunctionality and rural development
  • Relations between farming management, biodiversity and multifunctional landscapes
  • Participatory methods for improved integration of the multiple goals of organic agriculture

The cross-disciplinary aspects mentioned are ideas for inspiration; other combinations of different research aspects of organic farming and food systems are welcome. However, Cross-disciplinary papers should be submitted using one the categories listed at Organic Eprints (categories (link)). The exact themes and content of cross-disciplinary sessions at the conference will be decided according to the papers submitted.
